Preparing your vehicle for a long-distance trip from California to Connecticut takes just a few simple steps.
Remove personal items and accessories. Take out toll passes, electronics, and anything you value. Remove or secure exterior accessories like roof racks or spoilers that could shift or get damaged during transit. The carrier is not responsible for items left inside the vehicle.
Check your vehicle's condition. Document any existing damage with photos. Make sure your car is in working order—it needs to be drivable so the carrier can load and unload it safely. Top off your gas tank to about a quarter full, which is enough for loading and unloading.
Have a key ready. Provide the carrier with a working key so they can move your vehicle on and off the transport truck. If you have a keyless entry system, make sure the fob works.
Verify your insurance. Check that your vehicle has valid insurance before shipping. Most carriers require this for liability reasons.
Empty the trunk. Remove any items stored in the trunk, glove compartment, and under the seats. This reduces weight and ensures nothing gets lost or damaged.
